Resilience of the "Fortress": Why We Test Hobbit House Shelters with Real Explosions
When it comes to protecting lives, theoretical calculations in offices are not enough. We at Hobbit House know: safety is not just nice words on paper. It's numbers, facts, and rigorous field testing.
Recently, we took our "Fortress" model to the testing ground for a series of critical tests. We want to show you exactly what stands behind our rule: "Tested by war — proven by engineers".
What exactly we tested
To test the limits of our reinforced concrete, we didn't use computer simulations. We worked with real TNT charges (3 kg each) and a 120mm mortar mine. Using highly accurate Kistler shockwave sensors, we sequentially detonated charges:
-
Near the side wall.
-
Near the front facade.
-
Above the center of the roof.
Result: the structure withstands a pressure of 300–500 kPa. This is several times higher than the basic requirements of state standards for civil defense (100 kPa).

What this means for a manager If you are a factory owner, corporate CEO, or head of a territorial community, you know the price of responsibility. Every air raid alert means halted processes and a direct risk to your people. You cannot afford doubts about the quality of the shelter, because the consequences of a mistake are catastrophic.
The "Fortress" tests prove three things:
-
Your people are genuinely protected. Even under critical load and direct munition impact, the shelter maintains its integrity.
-
You have peace of mind and legal backing. Our shelters fully comply with DSTU 9329:2025 standards.
-
Business continuity. Thanks to quick installation, you don't need to turn your factory or school grounds into a construction site for months.
Our responsibility We do not sell abstract promises. We provide a proven engineering solution that is already working and saving lives at over 500 sites across Ukraine , including active combat zones in Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kupiansk, and other frontline cities.
If you are looking for a solution that will allow you to stop worrying about the shelter problem and give you confidence in your team's safety — contact us. We take care of the task from the first call to the final acceptance certificate.
