Types of RS: Underground and Ground Shelters

Hobbit House offers two main types of shelters, each optimized for specific operating conditions and customer needs.

1. Underground RS provides maximum protection due to natural soil shielding, significantly enhancing gamma radiation attenuation. These shelters are fully or partially buried, which increases their resistance to external influences and reduces visibility. They are perfect for permanent placement in populated areas, schools, hospitals, administrative buildings, and other critical infrastructure sites. Underground structures easily integrate into existing urban development and provide long-term autonomy while maintaining airtightness and ventilation standards.
2. Ground RS is installed directly on the surface and does not require extensive earthworks. This makes them an optimal choice in conditions with compressed deployment timelines, challenging terrain, or high groundwater levels. These shelters are often used as temporary or mobile solutions, for example, on industrial sites or in remote areas. Despite not being buried, their protective properties are ensured by the thick-walled reinforced concrete structure and airtight engineering systems.

Both types are made from monolithic reinforced concrete and are quality-controlled at every stage of production. Depending on the purpose, shelters can be equipped with a full set of life-support systems, including filtered ventilation, autonomous power supply, water supply, sanitary facilities, and communication tools. This allows us to adapt each solution to specific safety, capacity, and operational requirements.
