What is a civil defense shelter? How does it differ from a bomb shelter?

A civil defense shelter and a bomb shelter are different classes of shelters and have different purposes. The simplest shelter - any place where you can hide from danger - has minimal construction requirements. A prefabricated shelter is a shelter that meets the norms and standards. There can be different classes of protection. Bomb shelters are capital construction. They are designed to protect people in accordance with all rules and standards, with the necessary communications, and are most often built as underground. Depending on the function (for example, "shelters from direct bombing" are built at different depths).

What is the difference between an above-ground and underground civil defense shelter?

There is no fundamental difference in functionality - for sheltering from blast waves or debris. However, each type of shelter has its advantages and disadvantages in terms of price, operation, and installation time. Ground-based: - more expensive to manufacture (much more concrete); - faster installation (1-2 days); - more expensive delivery (due to the weight of concrete); - harder to heat; - does not require land works and design; - no matter where the groundwater is. Underground: - Requires a project (development time up to 2 months); - expensive earthworks and waterproofing; - cheaper construction, easier to heat

What is the cost?

The price depends primarily on the purpose: for whom the shelter is needed (since different norms of "square meters per person" are used). Other fundamental decisions for the future shelter are also important: - What kind of shelter is needed (above ground - underground, on or without a base, the simplest, prefabricated or RPS); - What equipment (from benches and bottles of drinking water to video cameras and TVs) - how to transport and deliver (whether the necessary equipment can be found at the installation site or must be delivered from afar). The price of a certified shelter starts at UAH 500 thousand including VAT. At each request of a potential client, we find out all the necessary information, make a calculation and provide them with a commercial offer, which specifies all the goods, works, and, of course, the price.

Why are there different shelters for different consumers?

These are the requirements of SBC B.2.2.5-2023 and DSTU 9195-2022, which clearly indicate the areas required for safe shelter for various institutions and population groups

What do civil defense structures protect against?

From blast waves and debris, depending on the protection class of the shelter required by the Customer. A-4: 100 kPa; А-3: 200 kPa; A-2: 300 kPa; A-1: 500 kPa. To put it in perspective, a 70 kPa wave destroys brick buildings. An air shock wave of 100 kPa kills an adult. A 200 kPa shock destroys military equipment. Our Fortress type ground shelter protects against fragments weighing 400 grams and flying at a speed of 1000 meters per second.

Do you set up shelters in other cities?

We install them all over Ukraine. Our shelters are installed even in the "first kilometers" from the front line.

Do you help with commissioning at the SES?

We advise our customers in this regard. If a project needs to be created, this is done by a project organization.

What is a radiation protection shelter (RPS) and how does it differ?

A radiation shelter (RPS) primarily protects against radiation. It is much more expensive than the simplest shelter, because a radiation shelter must have additional rooms, which significantly increases the total area of the shelter. In addition, the radiation protection coefficient and ventilation and life support systems must be designed to allow people to stay in the shelter without leaving it for at least 48 hours.

Where are the production facilities located?

Lviv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia and Kharkiv regions.

What is the protection class?

According to SBC B2.2.5-2023: A-4: 100 kPa; А-3: 200 kPa; A-2: 300 kPa; A-1: 500 kPa. To put it in perspective, a 70 kPa wave destroys brick houses. An airborne shock wave of 100 kPa kills an adult. A 200 kPa shock destroys military equipment.

Where can I see the shelters?

We have already installed many shelters, but not many of them are accessible to outside visitors. Please tell our manager in which city you would like to see a shelter and we will arrange a visit.

Do you have a reference list?

Yes. It is provided upon official request. There is a certain part of customers who do not mind giving recommendations and showing shelters. Some customers first ask to sign a non-disclosure agreement and only then agree to provide information about themselves.

What segments do you operate in?

All of them: commercial enterprises, state-owned enterprises, budget organizations, foundations (Ukrainian and international), defense companies, kindergartens, schools, and the Armed Forces.

Why are your shelters so expensive?

Our shelters have a reasonable price because: - meet the standards of the current DBN and DSTU; - have a wall of 30 cm (ground shelter) and 20 cm (underground shelter); - withstand a direct shot from a tank; - ground shelters have buttresses, not empty words to justify why buttresses are not installed; - shelters are made using original patented technology, which is confirmed by expertise; - we are responsible for our work and do not save on protecting the lives of Ukrainians. Have you seen the photos of "cheap" shelters after arrivals? It's scary to look at.

Do you participate in tenders?

Yes. We are an active participant in Prozzoro. The information on this platform is open. Therefore, any visitor who is interested in more detailed information can get it directly from the site.

Have you conducted any tests of the shelters?

Yes. A mathematical calculation of strength was made for all shelters using CAD software that calculates shelters, bridges and high-rise buildings. It is important that it was made by a top national construction university for the entire shelter structure. Not for a cube of concrete or a single structural element, as many other manufacturers do. In addition, the Fortress type shelter has undergone a strength test at a testing ground, which can be seen in the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbY45CRu2is

How do you differ from your colleagues?

Compliance with DBN and DSTU standards. "Credit" at field exams. Our shelters can be used to create radiation shelters. We already have 200+ installed shelters, including those used by the military at ground zero.

How many people can your shelters accommodate?

Our modules are assembled together both in width and length. The structure can be assembled to meet any client's needs and to fit any building spot.

Do you rent shelters?

It is a possible option.

Can I pick up with my own transport?

Yes.

Can I install the shelter myself? Is it possible to assemble under supervision?

Yes, you can install it yourself, but for the first time only with our guidance.

Which of your shelters has the highest protection class, above ground or underground?

Both types of shelters, the Hobbit and Fortress, comply with the SBC and DSTU standards. According to these standards, civil defense shelters must withstand an air blast wave of 100 kPa. As a standard, these shelters can withstand it and also withstand the debris specified in the calculation. At the same time, the design of our shelters incorporates engineering solutions that allow us to increase the protection class by replacing the reinforcement and concrete used in production and by deepening the structure underground. Therefore, the strength and level of protection of the shelter depends on the task, not on the installation location.
