Fortecia 4.0 and 6.0 strength test
Hobbit House carried out proving-ground tests of its above-ground reinforced-concrete "Fortecia" shelters — models 4.0 and 6.0. The shelters were subjected to a series of controlled detonations in three critical zones — side wall, facade side, and roof centre — with a gradual increase in charge mass and a decrease in distance to the specimen.
Fortecia 4.0 — detonation protocol
| No. | Zone | Charge | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Side wall | 2 kg | 2.05 m |
| 2 | Facade side | 2 kg | 2.05 m |
| 3 | Roof centre | 2 kg | 2.05 m |
| 4 | Side wall | 3 kg | 1.80 m |
| 5 | Facade side | 3 kg | 1.80 m |
| 6 | Roof centre | 3 kg | 1.00 m |
Fortecia 6.0 — detonation protocol
| No. | Zone | Charge | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | Side wall | 2 kg | 2.05 m |
| 8 | Facade side | 2 kg | 2.05 m |
| 9 | Roof centre | 2 kg | 2.05 m |
| 10 | Side wall | 3 kg | 1.80 m |
| 11 | Facade side | 3 kg | 1.80 m |
| 12 | Roof centre | 3 kg | 1.80 m |
The result
The structures were tested across all critical planes — walls, facade, roof — under a 500 kPa load, five times the DSTU 9329:2025 state standard. No load-bearing elements were destroyed; the shelter retained its protective function.
The engineering behind it
Fortecia is reinforced concrete with an arched profile, a buttress system calculated against blast and vacuum waves, and two entrances/exits, each protected by two 90-degree turns. It complies with DSTU 9329:2025 and DBN V.2.2-5:2023.
Proven beyond the proving ground
Behind these tests is real protection under enemy strikes — Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kupiansk, Vovchansk. The people inside the shelters stayed alive. Today 500+ Hobbit House structures stand across Ukraine. Proven in war, verified by engineers.
